DHAKA, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS) - Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his latter's office at Bangladesh Secretariat today.
During the meeting, both sides discussed in detail the expansion of bilateral trade.
Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari stated that there are 11 jute mills in Nepal and these mills depend on the import of raw jute from Bangladesh to meet their demand.
He mentioned that the recent suspension of raw jute exports from Bangladesh has caused some difficulties for the Nepali mills.
In this regard, Bhandari formally requested Bangladesh to ease the restrictions on its raw jute exports, said a Commerce Ministry press release.
Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin said that Bangladesh's raw jute and jute products are in high demand across various countries. Instead of exporting raw jute, Bangladesh aims to export semi-finished jute products.
Bangladesh is producing high-quality and environment-friendly semi-finished jute products, and if Nepal imports these products, then it will increase the bilateral trade volume and thus benefiting both countries, he added.
