Stocks regain momentum

DHAKA, Sept 07, 2025 (BSS) – Stocks today regained bullish momentum with robust investor participation following a single-session breather as optimism remained resilient amid macroeconomic tailwinds and a gradual easing of yields on government fixed-income securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), advanced by 21.9 points or 0.4% to settle at 5,636 points compared to 5,614 points in the previous trading session.

Market analysts observed that despite trading in a consolidation range during the morning session, the benchmark index staged an upturn at the mid-session on the back of a renewed buying interest in selective momentum-driven scrips.

Although profit-taking pressure intensified in the late session to trim some of the mid-session gains, the benchmark index managed to extend its prevailing bullish trajectory.

Meanwhile, investor participation also surged, with market turnover increasing by 7.7% to Taka 14.4 billion, recorded highest within a year.

On the sectoral front, Engineering (10.9%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Life Insurance (10.3%) and Pharmaceutical (10.1%) sectors.

Sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Mutual Fund (5.2%), Financial Institutes (4.9%) and General Insurance (3.8%) showed the most gains on the bourse today, while Paper (1.2%), Services (-1.0%) and Bank (-0.5%) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 245 advanced, 124 declined and 28 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also experienced a positive session today. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 10.4 and 22.8 points, respectively.
