Govt to procure 3 cargos LNG, 2.45 lakh MTs fertilizer

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) – The government today approved separate proposals for procuring   three cargos of LNG, 2.45 lakh metric tons of fertilizer and 15,000 metric tons of rock sulphur to meet the growing demand of the country.

The approvals came from the 32nd meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Finance Adviser said that there was a pressure on the government to raise the price of energy like gas in every month or two, but the interim government did not hike the price following various calculations by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. “It’s a good thing,”

“Our aim is to ensure necessary supply of LNG so that no such pressure is created on us to raise the energy price as such rise can impact the consumers as well as the industries,” he added.

The Finance Adviser said they are focusing on enhancing the supply side of LNG side by side reducing pressure on the government. “But, it’s hard to predict what will happen in the future.”

He informed that the government was purchasing LNG at a comparatively reasonable price.

Following three separate proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, United Kingdom with around TK 480.68 crore (per MMBtu LNG costing $11.44); one cargo LNG from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, United Kingdom with around TK  476.47 crore (per MMBtu LNG costing $11.34) and another cargo LNG also from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, United Kingdom with around Taka 484.88 crore (per MMBtu LNG costing $11.54) all following international quotation method.

Besides, following separate proposals from the Ministry of Industries and Agriculture, the government would procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh with around TK  169.69 crore, some 35,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from JSC “Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)” with around TK  154.90 crore, some 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from OCP, NUTRICROPS, Morocco with around TK  384.45 crore, 30,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer from OCP, NUTRICROPS, Morocco with around TK  215.39 crore, 30,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer also from OCP, NUTRICROPS, Morocco with around TK  215.04 crore, 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) with around TK  177.32 crore and another consignment of 40,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) with around TK  177.03 crore.

Apart from these, the government would procure 15,000 metric tons of rock sulphur/bright yellow sulphur/bright yellow sulphur crude from various sources with around TK  71.42 crore.
