SATKHIRA, Aug 17, 2025 (BSS) – Onion import from India through Bhomra land port in Satkhira district resumed today after a five-month suspension.
A total of 202 metric tons of Indian onions entered the country through Bhomra land port by this evening, sources at the Bhomra customs office said.
Nine onion trucks were also waiting in the Indian Gojadanga area, opposite the Bhomra port, to enter Bangladesh, customs sources added.
Since onion imports have resumed through the Bhomra port, work activity has returned among the port workers. Rice imports from India are also expected to resume soon through the port.
“After a five-month suspension, onion imports have started again through the port,” said Abu Hasan, President of the Bhomra Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association.
He added that if imports continue, the rising prices of onions in the Bangladeshi market are expected to decline.
According to M. Mizanur Rahman, Revenue Official of Bhomra land port, the last onion imports into Bangladesh through the port took place on March 27.
