KHULNA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) has launched a tree plantation programme as part of the government's initiative to plant 25 crore saplings over five years in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.
The programme was inaugurated on Tuesday by KAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Nazmul Ahsan at the university’s Temporary Campus-1.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said the university had undertaken the initiative in solidarity with the government’s nationwide afforestation programme.
“There is no alternative to tree plantation for protecting the environment and addressing the challenges posed by climate change,” he said, adding that trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and conserving biodiversity.
Dr Ahsan also said that plantation of flowering plants alongside trees would further enhance the natural beauty of the university campus. Such initiatives would contribute significantly to building a clean, green and aesthetically attractive campus, he added.
Among others, Treasurer Professor Dr Shamim Ahmed, teachers, students, officers and employees of different departments were present at the programme.
