Bangladesh, Maldives discuss tourism MoU signing

DHAKA, Apr 27, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh and the Maldives today discussed signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation with focus on coastal tourism development in Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata.

The discussion was taken place when Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed paid a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanom at her office at the Bangladesh Secretariat here today, an official release said.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present.

During the talks, the two sides stressed further strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Maldives. They discussed in details utilizing Maldivian expertise and cooperation in developing coastal tourism in Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata.

Both sides expressed strong interest in signing a MoU to deepen mutual cooperation in the tourism sector.

The proposed agreement is expected to help exchange knowledge and skills, develop tourism infrastructure and undertake joint initiatives between the two friendly countries.

The Maldivian envoy reiterated his country’s commitment to working closely with Bangladesh and hoped the highest level of cooperation with the current government would continue in the future.
