NAOGAON, March 24, 2026 (BSS) - During the Eid holidays, Naogaon district’s various recreational and sightseeing spots witnessed a huge influx of visitors.
A significant presence of children, teenagers, men and women was observed.
After a month-long fasting, families took the opportunity to enjoy post-Eid holidays together at different tourist attractions such as the historic Paharpur Buddhist Vihara and Halud Vihara in Badalgachi, Altadighi and Shalbon National Parks in Dhamoirhat, the memory-filled Patishar Kachari Bari in Atrai associated with Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the bird sanctuary at Raktadah Bil in Raninagar, the historic Kushumba Mosque in Mandar, Dibr Dighi in Patnitola, and Jaboi Bil in Sapahar and Chatra Bil in Niamatpur.
Many visitors flocked to Paharpur Buddhist Vihara with family and friends to enjoy the serene environment. From the first day of Eid, people of all ages from various districts visited the spot. While it usually attracts tourists throughout the year, the Eid holidays saw several times more visitors than usual.
At the historic Kushumba Mosque in Mandar, large crowds of visitors of all ages were also observed. Men, women, and children alike visited in greater numbers compared to regular times.
Other attractions in Naogaon district included Hasaigari Bil, the District Council Park, Abdul Jalil Children’s Park, Dighli Bil, Dana Park, Hoichoi Park, and the Rajbari sites in Dubolhati and Balihar. Children and teenagers enjoyed the holidays with parents, siblings, and relatives.
Visitors also came from nearby districts such as Joypurhat and Bogura.
Bilkis Begum, a visitor from Joypurhat said, “Paharpur Buddhist Vihara is in the neighboring district and we came here with our family to enjoy a touch of nature and some peace away from the hectic city life. After the holidays, we will return to Dhaka.”
Rafiqul Islam, who came from Bogura with his family to Bird Sanctuary said, “I learned about the hanging bridge at the bird sanctuary through media and social networks. Unable to resist seeing it in person, we visited during Eid. The bridge is very beautiful and attractive, and the surrounding natural environment is truly pleasant.”
Fazlul Karim Arju, custodian of Paharpur Buddhist Vihara, said, “During the three-day Eid holiday 43,935 visitors came to the Vihara, generating revenue of nearly Tk 1,356,870. Students up to class five were allowed free entry. While tourists visit throughout the year, Eid holidays attract several times more visitors. After the holidays, visitor numbers are expected to decline.”
