DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui has inaugurated the St. Martin Border Outpost (BOP) under Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) and the newly established Sea-Beach BOP in Teknaf, aiming to further strengthen border and coastal security.

The BGB DG inaugurated the St. Martin BOP on Tuesday, where a modern soldier line equipped with advanced facilities has been constructed, said a BGB press release.
The new BOP has been built to ensure the safety of BGB personnel on duty, enhance their efficiency, boost morale, and improve overall operational capabilities.

With the establishment of this outpost, the security system of St. Martin Island is expected to become more dynamic and effective.

Later, Siddiqui inaugurated the sea-beach BOP at Lengurbil in Teknaf, the Press release added.

Built in a modern and attractive architectural design, the BOP has been equipped with all necessary facilities.

The sea-beach BOP is expected to play a significant role in strengthening border security and enhancing the efficiency, morale, and operational readiness of the BGB members stationed in the area.

St. Martin Island, located about 16 kilometers south of Teknaf Upazila was under the security responsibility of the then Bangladesh Rifles until 1997.

The responsibility was later handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Considering the strategic importance and security sensitivity of the border area, BGB was redeployed on St. Martin Island on April 7, 2019.

With the inauguration of the new BOP, the full-scale operational activities of the St. Martin BOP have now officially begun.
