SYLHET, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS)- Jaflong, known as  'the daughter of nature’ is a popular tourist destination in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet, attracting huge number of tourists every year.
 
Jaflong is located behind the hills of Indian state of Meghalaya where fountains flowing through the hills comes down and fell into the Piyain River. Tourists enjoy the nature sitting on small and big stones of the water flow and stretching their legs in the slow stream.

Every day, tourists from home and abroad flock at Jaflong. But, during holidays and weekend, the spot is abuzz with large number of tourists.
 
Samsher Jamal with his family came to Jaflong from Ishwardi, Pabna to enjoy the beauty of Jaflong. They took pictures on a big stone at Jaflong Zero Point. 
 
Jamal said they came to Sylhet on a three-day tour. On the first leg of their visit they came to Jaflong. Everyone is enjoying it a lot. Without visiting Jaflong, their Sylhet tour would have unfulfilled, he said.
 
Most of the tourists either local or foreign come to Jaflong in groups. Abdur Rahim, an official of a German donor agency in Dhaka, visited Jaflong before. Talking to BSS he said this time he came with a group of 11 persons of this office.
 
“Facilities for tourists in Jaflong have been increased. However, it would be better if environmental protection and sitting arrangements could be ensured there,” he said.
 
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam said the district administration has taken a plan to set up environment-friendly toilet there.

Songramponji Khasia Palli, Mayabi Jharna and Jaflong Tea Garden are the other attractions of Jaflong. . 
 
It takes only 15 to 20 minutes to go from Jaflong Zero Point to Mayabi Jharna located on the Indian border.  
 
A group of students from Sylhet Polytechnic Institute came to visit Jaflong to see the magical waterfall. This time, due to less rainfall, the waterfall is releasing less water, said Murshed Sayem, a student. 

"We enjoyed waterfall a lot. Maybe we would have enjoyed it more if we come here during rainy season," he said.
 
Jaflong Tea Garden added a new dimension to the enjoyment of tourists. This tea garden is located on the bank of the river. Most tourists spend their time by taking photo in the tea garden. Local photographers help the tourists in providing proper guide to visit Jaflong. 
 
Shamsuddin Ahmed, a member of the Jaflong Tourist Guide and Photographer Cooperatives Association, said their association has about 800 members. 
 
He said, holidays usually attract huge crowd of tourists. Significant number of tourists also comes here during Eid vacation or long holidays, he said.
