CHATTOGRAM, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS)- Family members of July Uprising martyr’s and insured persons in Chattogram  have expressed satisfaction over  the death sentence handed to Sheikh Hasina by the International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity.

They also put importance on timely execution of the verdict for the sake of ensuring real justice.

Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has also been sentenced to death on one charge. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been sentenced to five years in prison for being an approver.

Shafi Alam, the father of martyr Wasim Akram expressed satisfaction over the verdict, saying, "I have been waiting for this verdict since morning. Finally, the tribunal has delivered the desired verdict. Like all citizens, I am happy and pleased."

He emphasized the need for maximum punishment for all identified killers, attackers, and those who gave instructions.

Kohinur Akhter, mother of Shaheed Faisal Ahmed Shanta, commented, "I will never get my son back, but I feel some peace after hearing about Hasina's death sentence."

Kohinur Akhter emphasizes the swift implementation of the sentence, stating that complete peace will not be achieved until it is carried out. She urges the government and the international community to make every effort to bring Hasina back to the country and execute her. Shanta envisioned a beautiful, exploitation-free, and just Bangladesh, and Akhter hopes that her son's martyrdom will help realize this goal.

Zakir Hossain, father of Shaheed Shanta, insisted that his son will not be returned back, but emphasized the importance of promptly implementing the sentence. He finds solace in the fact that justice has been served for his son's unjust killing. Dr. Yunus is seen as a key figure that could facilitate Hasina's return and the execution of the sentence, and efforts are being made in collaboration with him.

Shuvo Hossain, a July fighter who lost his eye during the Chhatra League shooting, calls for a fair trial for all cases related to the uprising. He stresses the need for full implementation of the announced sentence and fair trials for all cases involving those injured or killed during the uprising, to prevent further loss of life and ensure justice for all.

He emphasized the need to bring to justice those responsible for the shooting in Chattogram, including former Chhatra League leader Nurul Azim Roni and Jubo League leader Babar. He also called for accountability for all perpetrators, such as Hasan Mahmud, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, AJM Nasir Uddin, and Rezaul Karim.

Shuvo Hossain stressed that justice must be served for the martyred Wasim to find peace. He cautioned against unnecessary harassment in the July case and urged vigilance. The July mass uprising in Chattogram resulted in 14 deaths and over 900 injuries, with many sustaining permanent disabilities due to shootings and attacks by the Awami League and its affiliates, police, BGB, and law enforcement agencies.

A total of 151 cases were filed in connection with these incidents, but only one case has been completed after nearly one and an half years.

Kohinur Akhter, the mother of Shaheed Shanto, expressed concern about the slow pace of the investigation, stating, "In this country, one always has to worry about justice. We have not seen much progress in the case related to Shanto's murder. We urge for swift completion of all cases and trials."

On July 16, 2024, Shaheed Wasim, Shanto, and Faruk were fatally shot in an attack by members of the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and their associates in Muradpur. A total of 16 people were killed in Chattogram during the July 36 movement.
