Bangladesh beat India in SAFF U-20 Championship

DHAKA, July 27, 2022 (BSS) - Spirited Bangladesh U-20 national football team

beat their Indian rivals by 2-1 goals in the SAFF U-20 Championship held
today (Wednesday) at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.


With the two successive wins in the championship, Bangladesh not only moved
top of the table with six points but also brighten their chance of playing
the final of the tournament.


In the proceeding, forward Piyash Ahmmed Nova scored both the goals for
Bangladesh while Gurkirah Singh netted for India. All the three goals came in
the first half.


Piyash put Bangladesh ahead in the 29th minute with a perfect left footer
placing shot from the close range after utilizing a long pass from Imran
Khan.    


The hosts however staged a fought back in the match as Gurkirah Singh
restored the parity in the 35th minute of the match.


Piyash scored the second goal for Bangladesh in the 45th minute from a spot
kick.


Earlier, Bangladesh managed a hard-fought solitary goal victory over Sri
Lanka, courtesy of Mirazul Islam's all-important goal in the 71st minute of
the match, in their tournament opening match.


In the remaining matches, Bangladesh will meet the Maldives on July 29 and
compete against Nepal on August 2. All the matches will be held at Kalinga
Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

The top two teams will qualify for the final which will be held on August 5.

A total of five teams - defending champions India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri
Lanka and the Maldives - are taking part in the tournament which is being
held in round robin league basis.

Jummon, Piyash Ahmmed Nova and Miraj Islam.
