Good start for Ruman, Diya on opening day of Tokyo Olympics

DHAKA, July 23, 2021 (BSS) - Country's ace archer Ruman Sana and promising women’s archer Diya Siddique got off to a good start on the opening day of Tokyo Olympic Games as they finished 17th and 36th respectively among 64 competitors in their recurve individual qualification round events held today in Japan.

Ruman scored 662 out of 720 while Diya Siddique scored 635 out of 720. The duo also made it to the 16-team recurve mixed team final event as the last team with a collective score of 1297.

For the recurve mixed event, however, there was no separate selection competition. The final score of the country is decided by adding the combined points of its male and female archers participating in the recurve division.

Both Ruman and Diya will now face their South Korean rivals in the mixed team event scheduled to be held tomorrow (Saturday).

Ruman had an auspicious start as he scored of 337 in the first 36 shots but in his second turn of 36 shots, Ruman could not keep the tempo as he scored 325 to finish on 17th among the 64 archers.

Earlier, on the day, young archer Diya scored 635 out of 720-- 307 in the first 36 arrows and 328 in the second 36 shots.

Diya will now play against Dziominskaya Karyna of Belarus in the elimination round of recurve women’s single event while Ruman will face English archer Tom Hall in the first round of elimination round in the recurve men’s team event scheduled to be held on Tuesday (July 27).
