Bangladesh sufferer 1-6 goal defeat to Korea in Asia Cup opener

DHAKA, May 23, 2022 (BSS) - As it was presumed, Bangladesh national hockey team suffered a massive 1-6 goal defeat to strong South Korea in their opening Pool B match of Hero Asia Cup held today (Monday) at the Bung Karno Sports Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Bangladesh could not build up any strong resistance against upper ranked Korea and eventually lost in the one-sided affairs. Korshedur however was able to score a consolation goal for Bangladesh converting a penalty corner.

After the match, Bangladesh's Malaysian coach Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy said it was very tough match for them because Korea is the strongest team of the tournament at the moment.

He said the boys made some mistakes which they have to rectify for the future matches and he hoped his boys would come out better in the remaining matches.

Bangladesh, which placed in Pool B along with Korea, Malaysia and Oman, will play their remaining two matches against Oman and Malaysia on May 24 and 26 respectively.

Earlier, Bangladesh played two warm-up matches in Jakarta where they won against Indonesia 2-1 and suffered 1-5 defeat against India.

The top three teams of this tournament will qualify for the next Men's FIH Hockey World Cup to be held in India next year.
