Cute-Bspa Sports Carnival concludes

DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) — The Cute-BSPA Sports Carnival concluded today (Monday) with a prize-giving ceremony and the welcoming of new members, with more than 100 members of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) took part in 12 disciplines across eight events.

Md. Medul Hasan won the Md. Abdul Mannan Ladu Trophy as Sportsman of the Year. 

Besides becoming champion in swimming, he won the carrom doubles title partnering Md. Zahirul Islam. Medul also finished runner-up in carrom singles, third in archery and runner-up in the 100-meter sprint.

Manzur Elahi Shanto finished as the first runner-up. He won the shooting and shot put titles and also secured third place in carrom singles.

Zahid Munir was named the second runner-up. He won the Call Bridge title and the Twenty-Nine title partnering Sudipta Ahmad Ananda. He also finished third in chess.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque attended the ceremony as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.

Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, Chairman of the sponsoring organization Mousumi Industries Ltd. (Cute) and president of World Archery Asia attended as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, State Minister Md. Aminul Haque said sports journalists should remain involved in sports to maintain good health. He suggested organizing the carnival throughout the year and expanding it to include sports journalists from across the country.

The State Minister thanked BSPA members for continuing to organize such initiatives and said positive changes would be brought to the country's sporting arena after the upcoming Asian Games.
The State Minister said the government has decided to prioritize sports with the potential to win medals at the international level and provide long-term training and funding for those disciplines.
