DHAKA, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS)—Bangladesh Under-23 team was denied a virtually certain victory after rain forced the abandonment of their Game Development Trophy (GD Trophy) match against the Under-17 side at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

Put into bat first after losing the toss, Bangladesh U17 were bowled out for just 59 in 23.5 overs after struggling against a disciplined U23 bowling attack.

Asadullah Hill Ghalib top-scored for the U17 side with 18 off 29 balls. Captain Hasan made nine off 20 balls, while Rifat Hawlader also scored nine from 33 deliveries.

Sheikh Parvez Jibon was the pick of the U23 bowlers, taking five wickets for six runs. Rizan Hossain and Nuhayel Sandid claimed two wickets apiece.

Chasing 60 for victory, the U23 team reached seven without loss in 1.4 overs, needing only 53 more runs when rain interrupted play.

The rain persisted and prevented the teams from returning to the field. With no further play possible, the match was eventually abandoned, leaving both sides with one point each.
