COLOMBO, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - India were 88-2 at lunch after choosing to bat first as their second Test against Sri Lanka got underway in Colombo on Sunday.
The tourists lost both openers in the morning session, while first-Test hero Devdutt Padikkal was reprieved twice.
K.L. Rahul was the first to go when he chased a wide delivery from Lahiru Kumara and was caught behind.
Two balls later, Padikkal was dropped at backward point by Sonal Dinusha before he had opened his account.
Padikkal was handed another life on two when captain Dhananjaya de Silva spilled a chance.
Asitha Fernando then cleaned up Yashasvi Jaiswal for 45, with the dismissal followed by a heated exchange between the two players.
India made one change to the side that won the opening Test by 165 runs in Galle, leaving out Kuldeep Yadav and bringing in debutant Saransh Jain.
Sri Lanka dropped opening batter Nishan Fernando for Kamil Mishara, while Dinesh Chandimal, who was ruled out with concussion during the Galle Test, made way for Pasindu Sooriyabandara.
