India win toss, bat first in 2nd Sri Lanka Test

COLOMBO, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat in the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday.

India thrashed Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test in Galle on Wednesday to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Off-spinner Saransh Jain will make his Test debut for India, replacing Kuldeep Yadav.

Opening batter Kamil Mishara will debut for Sri Lanka, in place of Nishan Fernando.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who stepped in as a concussion substitute for Dinesh Chandimal in the first Test, is also part of the starting eleven for the first time.
