DHAKA, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS) - The First Division Hockey League, one of the most prestigious competitions in domestic hockey, is set to return after a long hiatus, having last been held in 2023.

Although clubs had previously shown reluctance to participate for various reasons, in the newly formed first division hockey league’s first meeting, all the clubs responded positively to the first call after the new committee took charge.

The participating clubs had requested the hockey federation for financial assistance of Taka 500,000 for each team. Although the federation is currently unable to provide such a large amount as a one-time grant, the federation’s general secretary expressed his willingness to provide Taka 250,000 to each club to help bring hockey back to the field. 

Reassured by the federation’s sincere initiative, all eleven participating clubs have made the final decision to return to the league.

Meanwhile, the player transfer window for the league will be held on September 6 and 7 while the league will begin on September 20.
