DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Emerging Team tasted a crushing seven-
wicket defeat to South Africa Emerging Team in their tri-series tournament 
opener today after a batting collapse saw them dismissed for just 89 runs.

Put in to bat first, Bangladesh struggled against the South African pace 
attack right from the words go.
 
The innings lasted only 30.2 overs, with opener Mahfizul Islam resisting 
lonely with a gritty 40 off 73 deliveries, including five boundaries.
Aminul Islam Biplob scored 11 and Samiun Basir added 10, while no other 
batter managed to reach double figures. Bangladesh also benefited from 11 
extras as they posted a modest total.

South African pacer Dian Galliem was the standout performance for the side, 
claiming 5-18 in 8.2 overs. He received good support from Andile Mogakane, 
who took two wickets, while Bayanda Majola, Janko Smit and Caleb Seleka 
chipped in with one wicket each.

In reply, South Africa lost an early wicket with just one run on the board 
but quickly recovered to take control of the chase. 

Richard Seletswane remained unbeaten on 35 off 40 balls, hitting five fours 
and a six, while Mitchell van Buuren finished unbeaten on 18 from 22 
deliveries. Daniel Smith contributed 22 and Modiri Lytheko scored 14 as the 
hosts reached 92-3 in 18.4 overs to seal victory.
 
For Bangladesh, Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan was the most successful bowler, 
returning figures of 2-22 from four overs.

The victory strengthened South Africa Emerging Team's campaign in the tri-
series, while Bangladesh Emerging Team will look to bounce back in their 
remaining fixtures after a disappointing batting display.
