DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS)- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has
appointed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal as chairman of
its newly-formed Franchise League Committee, according to an ICC statement
issued here today.

The committee has been tasked with overseeing plans for a proposed World Club
T20 tournament, which is expected to feature champion teams from franchise-
based T20 leagues across the world.

Senior cricket administrators from several Full Member nations have been
named to the committee. They include Dr Rudie van Vuuren (Cricket Namibia),
Devajit Saikia (BCCI), Richard Gould (England and Wales Cricket Board) and
Todd Greenberg (Cricket Australia).

At the same meeting, the ICC also reviewed governance and membership matters
involving Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Canada and France.

The ICC said it had formally recognized the newly-elected president of the
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as the country's representative on the ICC
Board.

Sri Lanka Cricket was urged to expedite the formation of an elected board.
Until then, the governing body will not be represented at ICC Board meetings.

France Cricket was placed "on notice" for failing to meet ICC membership
requirements, while conditions were outlined for the reinstatement of Cricket
Canada, whose suspension remains in effect.

The ICC also approved financial assistance of US$12.82 million for Cricket
West Indies to support the board as it addresses ongoing financial
challenges.
