DHAKA, June 17, 2026 (BSS)—Bangladesh were wrapped up for just 131 in 19 overs in the first T20 International of the three-match series against Australia, putting up a vulnerable batting show at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram today.

The visitors caught Bangladesh in spin-web, with the spinners accounting nine wickets out of 10.

Leg spinner Adam Zampa and left-arm spinner Joel Davis claimed three wickets apiece, conceding just 18 and 17 runs respectively. Occasional off spinner Matt Renshaw took two while Nikhil Chaudhary, the first Indian-born cricketer to debut for Australia in 60 years grabbed one wicket with his leg-spin.

Pacer Spencer Johnson snapped up the rest of the wicket.

No Bangladesh batters could offer resistance against a disciplined Australian bowling after Towhid Hridoy won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hridoy, the vice-captain led the side after Liton Das was ruled out for the game following an injury he sustained during the third and final ODI against the same opponent.

No. 9 batter Mahedi Hasan was the top-scorer for the side with 29 runs for Bangladesh.

Johnson struck in the third over having sent back Tanzid Hasan who made 10 before spinners came into the action.

Renshaw removed another opener Saif Hasan who looked comfortable against the Australian bowlers but an expensive slog-sweep cost his wicket for 20 runs. 

Towhid Hridoy, however, failed to make his first innings as captain a memorable one after being out on 8, leaving Bangladesh 57-3.

Zampa and Davis triggered a sensational collapse as Bangladesh lost five wickets for 40 runs.

Mahedi’s knock provided some resistance, taking Bangladesh past 130-run mark, which looked unlikely at one phase.
