Mohammedan rope in Nahid to bolster pace attack for crucial DPL clash

DHAKA, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - Table-toppers Mohammedan Sporting Club have
bolstered their already formidable bowling attack by securing the services of
Bangladesh pace sensation Nahid Rana for a crucial Dhaka Premier League (DPL)
match against Legends of Rupganj.

Mohammedan are set to formally complete Nahid's transfer ahead of Tomorrow's
eighth round fixture at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, a
match that could have a significant impact on the title race.

The addition of Nahid further enhances a bowling unit that already features
national stars Ebadot Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Saifuddin, Taijul Islam and
Rishad Hossain.

Nahid, regarded as the fastest bowler in Bangladesh cricket at present,
played for Abahani Limited last season. Although his token was retained this
year, he was not contracted by any club, allowing Mohammedan to bring him
into their squad.

The right-arm pacer is among the national cricketers who have been permitted
to play domestic cricket before Bangladesh begin preparations for their
upcoming ODI series against Australia, scheduled to start on June 9.

Mohammedan initially hoped to have Nahid available for two matches, but the
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is understood to be willing to release him for
only one game.

With the ninth round of the DPL scheduled for June 5 and the national team's
preparations beginning shortly afterward, the board is reluctant to allow
centrally involved players to continue participating in competitive domestic
matches.

Mohammedan's contest against Legends of Rupganj carries added importance. The
Motijhil based club lead the standings with 12 points from seven matches,
while Rupganj and defending champions Abahani Limited both have 10 points.

A victory over Rupganj would strengthen Mohammedan's grip on the title race.
Should Abahani also fail to win their respective match, Mohammedan would move
significantly closer to securing the championship.
