DHAKA, Apr 28, 2026 (BSS) - Abahani Limited Dhaka crashed out of the Federation Cup after suffering a 1–0 defeat to PWD Sports Club in their crucial group match held on Tuesday at Bashundhara Kings Arena.
The equation for Abahani to stay alive in the competition was already complicated before the match.
Even a victory would not have guaranteed progression, as their fate depended on the outcome of the match between Rahmatganj MFS and Youngmens Club Fakirerpool. However, the Sky Blue Dhanmondi outfit failed to keep their hopes alive, suffering a defeat that confirmed their elimination.
After a goalless first half, the decisive moment came in the 66th minute when Mohammed Abdullah netted the all-important goal for PWD, sealing a vital win.
Abahani finished their group campaign with four points from four matches, ending their journey in the tournament as last year’s runners-up.
With this victory, PWD moved to six points from four matches and remain in contention for a place in the next round. Their qualification hopes now depend on the result of the Rahmatganj–Youngmens clash, with a Rahmatganj defeat boosting PWD’s chances.
