DHAKA, April 20, 2026 (BSS) - The president of the ad hoc committee of the
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Tamim Iqbal said they are aiming to hold board
elections earlier than the mandated deadline, with a target set for early
June.
Speaking to reporters during the second ODI between Bangladesh and New
Zealand today, Tamim said the board does not intend to use the full 90-day
window.
"We are supposed to hold the elections by July 21, but that doesn't mean we
have to wait until then," he said. "Our first preference is to organize it in
the first week of June. If that's not possible, we will definitely complete
it in the second week."
The current 11-member committee, formed after the dissolution of the previous
board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, has been tasked primarily with overseeing
day-to-day operations and arranging a timely election.
Tamim also revealed plans to reintroduce ball boys during international
matches in Bangladesh, starting with the upcoming T20 series against New
Zealand.
He noted that the practice which is common in other countries, had been
discontinued locally without a clear reason.
Recalling his own early involvement in the game, Tamim said he had served as
a ball boy during a match involving Marylebone Cricket Club in Chattogram in
1998, along with several other matches in his youth.
