DHAKA, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was
nominated for the Tasmania Big Bash Player of the year after a stand out
performance in the tournament in his debut season.
Rishad took 15 wickets in the tournament, playing an important role in Hobart
Hurricanes strong season. Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Elis and Chris Jordan are
the other three players in the short-list alongside Rishad to fight for the
prestigious award.
"In his first year in purple, Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had a
breakout season," Cricket Tasmania wrote in their website, explaining the
reason behind Rishad's nomination.
"After being drafted by the Hurricanes in BBL|14 and unable to play, 15
wickets in his first year of the Big Bash was a great return. Rishad led all
Hurricanes players in the wicket-taking column and was often used early,
straight out of the Powerplay, playing a key role for the 'Canes. He had best
figures of 3-26 against the Adelaide Strikers and is every chance to take out
this year's award."
Cricket Tasmania will celebrate its annual awards night, recognising
outstanding performances across the 2025-26 season on April 1. Players from
Pathways, Tigers, and Hurricanes programs will be honoured, with winners
crowned across a range of prestigious categories.
Winners will be announced throughout the night on social media, and the
following day on the website and to members via email.
