DHAKA, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS)- Mominul Haque has expressed his frustration at being labeled a "Test-only" player, saying the tag has hampered his opportunities in white-ball cricket.

Mominul remains a key figure for Bangladesh national cricket team in the longest format and is the country's third-highest run-scorer in Tests. However, the perception of him as solely a red-ball specialist has significantly impacted his white-ball career.

He last played an ODI in 2018 and a T20 International in 2014. The "Test player" label has also often cost him opportunities in franchise and domestic white-ball tournaments, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the National Cricket League (NCL), among others.

Currently featuring in the one-day format of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), Mominul is representing East Zone. In the opening round game against North Zone, he top-scored with 83 off 82 balls, albeit his side ended up on the losing side.

Speaking to reporters in Bogra after his impressive knock, Mominul said selection for any format should be based purely on performance rather than labels.

"Selection should be based on performance. Players should at least be given opportunities in domestic white-ball tournaments. Preparing someone solely for red-ball cricket sets a bad example for red-ball cricket," Mominul said.

He added that such labeling could discourage young cricketers from aspiring to become Test specialists.

"When a player sees that a Test tag badly affects his chances in one-day and T20 cricket, he feels deprived, especially when financial matters are involved. It could discourage young players from wanting to become Test specialists," he added.
