DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS)- A superb 73 off 44 balls from Saif Hassan helped Dhaka Capitals romp to a commanding 42-run victory over Chattogram Royals in their final Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Dhaka finished their BPL campaign second from bottom in the points table with three victories. Chattogram, meanwhile, remained second and confirmed a Qualifier-1 clash against table-toppers Rajshahi Warriors.
Saif's brilliant innings laid the foundation for Dhaka's total of 170, before they were bowled out in 19.5 overs. The bowlers then delivered a disciplined performance, led by Taskin Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin, to dismiss Chattogram for 128 in 19.4 overs.
Saif took charge early after the dismissal of opener Usman Khan, who played a brief but blistering knock of 16 off six balls. The Bangladesh T20 vice-captain dominated the bowlers with authority, keeping Dhaka firmly in control.
He added 90 runs for the second wicket with Zubaid Akbari, who scored 29, the second-highest contribution in the innings. Tanvir Islam (3-25) broke the partnership by removing Akbari and then dismissed Shamim Patwari for a duck in the very next delivery.
Saif, however, remained undeterred and continued to attack at will. His innings, laced with five fours and five sixes, came to an end when he was dismissed by pacer Mukidul Islam Mugdho. Dhaka's middle order then failed to fully capitalize on the platform he had set.
Shoriful Islam and Aamer Jamal picked up two wickets each to support Tanvir's three-wicket haul.
In reply, Chattogram Royals were rocked early by Taskin Ahmed, who struck with the very first ball to dismiss Mohammad Haris and followed it up with a first-ball duck for Shadman Islam in his next over. Imad Wasim then removed Mahmudul Hasan Joy, leaving Chattogram reeling at 19-3 inside three overs.
The situation worsened when Naim Sheikh was run out for a struggling 18, effectively ending Chattogram's hopes. Mohammad Saifuddin ripped through the middle order with figures of 4-20, while Taskin finished with 3-28.
Amid the collapse, Aamer Jamal provided some resistance with a 42 off 26 balls, ensuring Chattogram crossed the 100-run mark, but the target was never within reach.
