LONDON, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Coventry manager Frank Lampard described the Championship leaders' fightback to beat Leicester 2-1 on Saturday was a "massive" result in their bid to reach the Premier League.
Jordan James put Leicester ahead before Ellis Simms equalised shortly after half-time.
Haji Wright came off the bench to score his first goal since early October to seal the points in the 85th minute.
Lampard admitted it was a much-needed result after a run of just two victories in their previous eight games.
"It was a massive win because it was a tough match. They're a quality team, you can't get fooled by their league position because if they turn up and play well they give you problems," the former Chelsea boss said.
"We've set really high standards here and we're used to having a lot of momentum in games and it's normal that you don't always have that. It's my job to remind players because there was tension in the stadium."
Coventry are six points ahead of second-placed Middlesbrough, who won 3-2 at West Bromwich Albion on Friday.
Ipswich, 3-0 winners against lowly Blackburn, are two points behind Middlesbrough in third place in the race for automatic promotion.
Blackburn conceded an own goal in the third minute by debutant Eiran Cashin.
Jack Taylor notched the second goal for Kieran McKenna's side eight minutes later and former Blackburn striker Sam Szmodics completed the victory in the 88th minute.
"I think it was a good performance, a good result and a good step for us," McKenna said.
Millwall boss Alex Neil saluted his team's desire after a 2-0 victory at play-off rivals Watford.
Femi Azeez and Josh Coburn struck in the second half for the fourth-placed Lions, who are three points off second place.
"At this stage of the season, winning is obviously the most important thing, but how you win does matter," Neil said.
"We talk a lot about doing the hard yards and sometimes at this level you can beat teams through persistence and put the effort in that maybe other teams won't."
Goals from Kyle Joseph and Charlie Hughes gave fifth-placed Hull a 2-1 win at Southampton.
Patrick Agyemang scored a late winner as Derby beat sixth-placed Preston 1-0 at Deepdale.
