Malan, Hridoy steer Rangpur to strong 181-4 against Dhaka

DHAKA, Jan 17, 2026 (BSS) - Contrasting half-centuries from openers Dawid Malan and Towhid Hridoy helped Rangpur Riders post a competitive 181-4 against Dhaka Capitals in a crucial Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

A victory in this match would confirm Rangpur's playoff berth as the final team in the last four.

Former England opener Malan top-scored with a fluent 78 off 49 balls, an innings laced with eight fours and four sixes.

Hridoy, however, went through a scratchy knock. He survived three chances and struggled for timing for much of his innings but still managed to score 62 off 46 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes.

Together, the duo added a record 126 runs for the opening wicket, Rangpur's highest opening partnership in BPL history, surpassing the previous best of 124 shared by Soumya Sarkar and Steven Taylor.

Despite the strong platform, Rangpur failed to breach the 200-run mark due to poor finishing from the middle order.

Kyle Mayers was the only other batter to make a meaningful contribution, scoring 24 off 16 balls, while the remaining batters failed to reach double figures.

For Dhaka Capitals, Mohammad Saifuddin was the most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 2-33.
