DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh cricketers and BPL franchises have expressed their heartfelt condolences over the death of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia.
She passed away around 6 AM today while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
Bangladesh T20 captain Liton Das shared his sorrow on his verified Facebook page, writing: "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, and the nation during this time of grief."
Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was also left grief-stricken after hearing the sad news.
"May Allah Almighty grant former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia the highest place in Paradise and forgive her. I pray for peace for her soul and strength for the country," he wrote on his Facebook.
Mushfiqur Rahim, the only Bangladeshi cricketer to have played 100 Tests, posted a picture of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) condoling Khaleda Zia's death on his verified Facebook page, adding, "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un."
Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal also shared his condolences: "With her passing, the country has lost a symbol of strong leadership. May Allah grant her soul eternal rest and place her in Jannatul Firdous."
Terming Khaleda Zia as a "towering figure" in the nation's history, BPL franchise Sylhet Titans, wrote: "The Sylhet Titans Family is profoundly saddened by the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh."
"Today, we mourn the loss of a towering figure in our nation's history a leader whose courage and dedication shaped the destiny of millions. Her unwavering commitment to the people of Bangladesh will forever remain an inspiration."
"We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, her followers, and the entire nation. We pray that the Almighty grants her eternal peace and strength to those she left behind."
BPL franchise team Rangpur Riders expressed their grief, stating, "Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is no more! The Riders family is mourning alongside the entire country. May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdous."
The Rajshahi Warriors family also expressed their condolences: "We extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia. May her soul rest in eternal peace."
