MUNSHIGANJ, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - Zakia Sultana, who won the gold medal in the shot put event at the 39th National Junior (age-level) Athletics championship, dreams to participate in Olympic and aims to achieve record-breaking success at the national level in athletics.

Zakia Sultana, daughter of Jamal Talukdar of Chandanadhur village of Sirajdikhan upazila, had great passion in sports since her childhood. Her indomitable willpower has led her to success. 

She has achieved success in the school level of national sports competitions in 2022, 2023, and 2024 in the javelin throw, shot put, and discus throw.

In 2023, she topped first in the shot put and became third in the discus throw at the national level in the athletics competition organized by the Bangladesh Athletics Federation.

In 2024, she finished third place in the shot put and became second in the Javelin throw at the National Junior (age-level) athletics competition.

In 2025, she won the gold medal in the iron shot put event in the 39th National Junior (age-level) Athletics competition. Zakia's unwavering desire to move forward in life, without any academic training, has brought her today's success.

Talking to BSS, Zakia said she is the youngest of three sisters. Her elder sister is married. Her middle sister is physically disabled. When her father died in 2009, her mother Nasima Begum moved to her grandfather house with her three daughters. The hardships of life could not keep Zakia from pursuing her dreams. Despite the all odds, Zakia continued her studies along with sport. This year, she took part in the SSC examination from Malkhanagar High School.

"In the future, I have a plan to continue my study along with sports. I am taking training regularly under my school sports teacher Nitya Nanda Bhakta," Zakia said.

She said her school headmaster has always provided support and inspiration in both studies and sports.

The school's sports teacher, Nitya Nanda Bhakta said that since the time she was in the 8th grade, Zakia had been doing well at the thana and district level in javelin throw, shot put and discus throw.

Zakia said she dreams to qualify for the Olympics in the future and aim to raise the national flag high in the foreign soil.
