MOENCHENGLADBACH, Germany, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - RB Leipzig missed the chance to put pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich as they were held to a goalless draw at Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday.
Second-placed Leipzig came into the match in fine form on the back of eight wins in their last 10 league games but the stalemate left them five points behind the champions having played a game more.
Gladbach, who had spent much of the early season in the relegation zone, were also in a rich vein of form having won their last four matches and had the better of proceedings.
Leipzig missed the attacking verve of teenage midfielder Assan Ouedraogo, who picked up a knee injury in last Sunday's 2-0 win over Werder Bremen.
"The positive we can take is that we kept a clean sheet," Leipzig's Germany full-back David Raum told Sky Germany, adding that "we weren't incisive enough going forwards".
"But we'll take the point away from home, because Gladbach are on a roll and have momentum at home."
Home midfielder Franck Honorat had the ball in the net shortly after half-time but his effort was chalked off by VAR for offside.
With 15 minutes remaining, Gladbach were awarded a penalty after Japanese forward Shuto Machino went down in the box, but the spot-kick was overturned on review with Leipzig defender Willi Orban having got a foot to the ball.
Raum had Leipzig's best chance of the match when he hit the inside of the post with 10 minutes remaining.
Leipzig have emerged as surprise challengers this season despite fielding a young squad after several high-profile departures in the summer.
Xavi Simons left for Tottenham, Benjamin Sesko went to Manchester United and Lois Openda joined Juventus, meaning that Leipzig needed to undergo a rebuild in their first transfer window under new Red Bull football boss Jurgen Klopp.
The Red Bull-owned club were hammered 6-0 in their season opener by Bayern but have only lost once since.
However, they could finish the weekend eight points behind Bayern if the Bavarians win at home to struggling St Pauli on Saturday. They may even lose second place if Bayer Leverkusen beat Borussia Dortmund.
