KURIGRAM, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Age-Group Committee Chairman Mohammad Asif Akbar said that preparations are underway to organise six to seven national-level tournaments to make age-group cricket more structured and widespread.

"As part of this initiative, the Prime Bank School Cricket Tournament will soon kick off. BCB is working to ensure that young cricketers can stay on the field for at least eight months a year," he said in Kurigram.

Asif Akbar visited Kurigram Stadium this afternoon as part of his northern region tour to assess development opportunities for players aged 14 to 18. After inspecting the ground, he said, "We are reviewing whether all necessary facilities for players' practice are in place. Any shortfalls will be addressed promptly."

He added that BCB is committed to promoting cricket in every educational institution across the country. These initiatives aim to make cricket popular among the younger generation and strengthen it on a solid foundation. He also mentioned that alternative grounds will be arranged for football players.

After the inspection, the BCB official held discussions with players, club committee members, and stadium authorities in the stadium hall room.

The event was attended by BCB Director Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, Member Secretary Armanul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Asaduzzaman, and members of the district sports association and local club committees.

Local sports enthusiasts expressed hope that BCB's initiative to expand age-group cricket will give new momentum to the development of young cricketers and field-based activities.
