6th women’s baseball meet begins

DHAKA, Oct 30, 2025 (BSS) -The 6th Women’s Baseball Championship began at Ria Gope Women’s Sports Complex in the capital today (Thursday).

Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin formally inaugurated the meet as the chief guest. The opening ceremony was presided by Bangladesh Baseball Softball Association (BBSA) president Md Afzalur Rahman. 

Kazi M Fazlul Karim, Additional IGP (admin) Bangladesh Police Head quarters was present there as the special guest.

Tournament committee’s chairman and Bangladesh Ansar and VDP sports director Mirza Sifat e Khoda, BBSF vice president Dr Anupam Hossain, its general secretary Talha Zubayer and joint secretary Imam Hossain Shohag were also present in the opening ceremony. 

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, SK Bashir Uddin said: “Baseball is gradually gaining popularity in Bangladesh. I believe that this game will spread further across the country and Bangladesh will soon see success in the international arena.”    

At one stage during the event, the BBSA offered the Commerce Advisor the responsibility of taking over as the chief patron of the Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Federation and he accepted it with sincerity.

The Adviser also expressed his hope that he would provide all kinds of support for the development of Bangladesh baseball in the future and work to make the national team more prosperous and successful.

In the opening day, the Sand Angels team defeated the Joypurhat district team by 17-4 runs, Savar Community Club beat Chandpur district team by 19-0 runs, Kushtia defeated Narayanganj district by 11-1 runs and Joypurhat Club defeated Sylhet district by 10-0 runs.
