The Windies series victory will turn things around: Miraz

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz believes the series victory against West Indies will give the team an impetus as they prepare for several upcoming series, which will be vital for direct qualification to the next ICC Cricket World Cup.

Bangladesh came into the series having lost four ODI series in a row. Another series defeat would have made it five consecutive losses, a streak they had not endured since 2005.

Quelling that fear, Bangladesh won the series 2-1, albeit on a pitch suited for the home spinners.

"It was very crucial for Bangladesh to get back into winning ways. We've had a bad run, but this possibly is the series that turns things around, and we can become more consistent in the one-day format," Miraz said after clinching the series.

"I hope next year more [ODI] matches are coming, and the boys understand what we're doing."

The series had been in the balance after West Indies showed admirable grit, winning the Super Over in the second game to level the series.

With the series on the line, Bangladesh batters showed steely resolve, especially openers Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hasan, who added 176 runs for the opening stand, laying the platform for a big total.

Thanks to their partnership-the best opening stand at Mirpur and Bangladesh's first 100-plus opening partnership since 2023-the hosts posted 296-8. The spinners then claimed all 10 West Indies wickets, helping Bangladesh wrap up the innings for 117 and secure a 179-run victory.

The margin of victory was Bangladesh's second-biggest overall and the largest against West Indies.

"We started very well. The way Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hasan batted was excellent. It's not easy to bat on this surface, but they took responsibility and hit many boundaries in the first 20 overs," Miraz said.

"We haven't batted well over the last few months, and we knew we had to stay positive. We discussed how to play in these conditions and agreed that we have to play positively all the time; otherwise, we cannot get runs."

Miraz also heaped praise on the bowlers for their consistency.

"Everybody's mindset is right, and everyone tried to make runs on this wicket. The batters did the job early, and despite nearly 300 runs on the board, our bowlers bowled wonderfully," he said, applauding legspinner Rishad Hossain in particular.

Rishad took 12 wickets, the most by a Bangladesh spinner in an ODI series and second only to Mustafizur Rahman's 13 wickets against India in 2015.

"Rishad Hossain played really well throughout the series. It's easy for the captain when everybody steps up. Everyone is maintaining line and length and focused on performing," Miraz said.

"Everybody is supporting me, and credit definitely goes to the whole team."
