DHAKA, Sept 12, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh U-17 national football team will depart for Sri Lanka tomorrow (Saturday) to take part in the 10th edition of SAFF U-17 Championship scheduled to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from September 15-27.
Seven South Asian nations -- Bangladesh, defending champions India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives host Sri Lanka --, split into two groups, will compete in the regional tournament.
Addressing at a pre departure press conference held at the conference room of Bangladesh Football Federation today (Friday) Bangladesh U-17 national football team head coach Golam Robanni Choton said: “We’ll give our best in the tournament to win the tournament title … though the tournament is U-17 SAFF but our main focus will be over the development and performance of the players.”
He said the camp for the tournament had started on July 25 with the thirty four players in Jessore where the boys went through a intensive training. Boys are excited and fully prepared to play in the tournament.
Choton said he has good idea about the participating teams of the tournament and he firmly believes that the boys have the capability to become champion in the tournament.
Team captain Nazmul Huda Faisal also echoed the same statement by saying that “All the players are prepared for the tournament…. our training session in the friendly environment in Jessore was fantastic and we hope that we’ll bring something good from Sri Lanka.”
Bangladesh has been pitted in Group A along with Nepal and Sri Lanka while the group B consists of India, Pakistan, Bhutan and Maldives.
Bangladesh will start their tournament campaign taking on Nepal on September 18 and play their last group match against Sri Lanka on September 21.
The top two teams from each group will play the cross semifinals on September 25 while the final of the championship is slated for September 27.
All the matches will be held at Racecourse ground in Colombo.
