DHAKA, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel
chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu has said Mehidy Hasan Miraz will play the
T20 format when the team will be in serious crisis or team needs his service
badly.
Miraz, an allrounder, is currently playing all three formats of cricket for
Bangladesh.
While Ashraf kept his faith on Mehidy Hasan Miraz's ability to excel in all
three formats of cricket simultaneously, he said it would also put pressure
on him physically and mentally which can affect his batting and bowling.
"The impact and appeal of playing with the white and red balls are different.
People play with different mindsets," he said here today.
"Mehidy Hasan Miraz is one of our best players in Test and ODI cricket. The
whole world knows him because of his all-round performance. But, it has some
impact on T20 cricket. It also affects batting. It also affects bowling more.
Still, he loves playing this format."
"Besides, he also thinks about the impact of this game. We are talking openly
now. If the team is in crisis, he must play. If the team's needs and the team
are in a serious crisis, he must come and play."
Citing Miraz as tough character, Ashraf said that for a player like Miraz, it
won't be difficult to have a smooth transition to T20 cricket from other two
formats.
"It is not difficult to come to T20 from the other two formats. He is a
tough, talented player. He has the ability to attack at any moment," he
pointed out. "But continuing to play three formats of cricket simultaneously
is very challenging. It is a matter of a lot of physical effort."
So there are many things to consider here, maintaining a form and playing in
three formats, Ashraf said.
"All these things have to be taken into consideration. We don't have the
luxury of keeping special cricketers fixed according to the format like
England, Australia or India. Hopefully, we can gradually get to that
position."
