DHAKA, Aug 22, 2025 (BSS)- Two new national records were set on the first day of the 17th National Summer Athletics competition that has begun at National Stadium today (Friday).
Abdul Alim of Bangladesh Army set the new national record in discus throw (men’s) with a throw of 46.94m eclipsing the previous record of 44.98 set by his teammate Azharul Islam in 2010.
In the women’s shot put event, Jannat Begum of Bangladesh Army set the new national record of 13.91m breaking the old mark of 13.52m set by Jakia Akter of Bangladesh Navy.
Meanwhile, Imranur Rahman of Bangladesh Navy became the fastest man in the 100m sprint with a time of 10.64 seconds (E) while Sumaiya Dewan of Bangladesh Navy won the title of the fastest woman for the second time, with a time of 12.19 seconds (E).
A total of eleven events have been decided when the last report came this evening with Bangladesh Army dominating the tally with 19 medals including seven gold, six silver and equal number of bronze medals.
Bangladesh Navy is placed in second position with 14 medals including five gold, six silver and three bronze medals.
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan, Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Police shared the third position with one bronze medal.
Earlier, Youth and Sports Secretary Md. Mahbub-Ul-Alam formally inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest.
