DHAKA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS)- The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh
(CWAB) will hold an election on September 4.
The organisation has announced the names of a three-member election
commission with BCB Director Iftikhar Rahman Mithu as chairman while former
national team captain Habibul Bashar Sumon and former wicket-keeper Nasir
Ahmed Nasu were appointed as election commission members.
The announcement came after a meeting of current and former cricketers at the
Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
CWAB ad-hoc committee member Salim Shahed said, "We held a meeting of CWAB
and decided that the election will be held on September 4."
"The meeting also discussed the entire process from membership enrollment to
collecting and submitting nomination papers. All the work for the election
will start soon," he added.
Salim Shahed said that CWAB now has a permanent office at the Sher-e-Bangla
Stadium, allotted by the National Sports Council (NSC).
He confirmed that all players registered under the Cricket Committee of Dhaka
Metropolis (CCDM) since 1975 can become life members with voting rights.
In addition, current and former national and first-class players, who are
listed as permanent members of the CWAB, can also vote.
However, if any member of the CWAB holds any position in the BCB, then he
will be ineligible to vote to avoid conflict of interest.
Selim said, "Directors or employees of the BCB will not be able to vote. If a
CWAB member later joins the BCB, he or she will have to resign from one of
the roles."
