DHAKA, July 31, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh fast bowler Syed Khaled Ahmed believes that they are capable of playing in the final of the Asia Cup even though they failed to break the group phase in the last edition in 2022 that was held in T20 format.
This year the Asia Cup will go back to T20 format again from the traditional 50-over format, keeping the T20 World Cup next time in mind. This will be the third time that the tournament will be held in T20 format, having previously held in this format in 2016 and 2022.
While at home in 2016, they became runners-up, Bangladesh even couldn't reach Super 4 in 2022, the tournament that UAE hosted.
"We are a team that can play in the Asia Cup final this time," Khaled told the reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today. "If we can win two or three matches from the group we are in, we will be able to go to the final."
Khaled is not a T20 regular for Bangladesh but his confidence stemmed from his side's recent performance in this format. Bangladesh shrugged off their ill reputation as the vulnerable side in this format, having won back-to-back series against two top cricketing nations like Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Bangladesh will begin the tournament with a match against Hong Kong on September 11. They will then face off Sri Lanka on September 13 before taking on Afghanistan for their last group match on September 16.
A official BCB official informed that the training camp of the national team camp for Asia Cup will begin in August 5.
Bangladesh have had a long break from international cricket due to the postponement of the India series. However, the BCB is trying to organize a bilateral series or a tri-nation series by inviting Nepal and the Netherlands in the vacant August.
