DHAKA, July 26, 2025 (BSS)-A two-day match referee training and workshop, 
organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) begun at the Sher-e-
Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), Mirpur today. 

This initiative is part of BCB Umpires' Department's continued efforts to 
enhance officiating standards across domestic and international cricket. The 
programme will end tomorrow (Sunday).

The workshop is designed to equip current and aspiring match referees with 
the essential knowledge, skills and ethical frameworks required to uphold the 
integrity of the game and ensure smooth match operations at all levels.

Former Bangladesh national men's and women's team members and former first 
class players are attending the workshop. 

The two-day program will cover a wide range of topics relevant to match 
officiating including the purpose and role of a match referee, key personal 
and professional attributes, responsibilities before, during and after 
matches, understanding the Player Conduct and Team (PCT) Code, report writing 
and communication protocols, in-depth analysis of the Laws of Cricket and 
playing conditions, Code of Conduct: breaches, sanctions, and disciplinary 
measures, evaluating umpire performance and decision-making techniques.

Sessions will include interactive discussions, case studies, and practical 
exercises based on real-match scenarios to provide participants with a hands-
on learning experience.

A.S.M Roquibul Hassan, Chief Match Referee, BCB conducts the workshop while 

Abhi Abdullah Al Noman, In-Charge and Educator, Umpires Department, BCB and 
Neeyamur Rashid Rahul, ICC International Panel Match Referee, BCB, S.I.S 
Saikat, ICC Elite Panel Umpire present the speeches. 

Speaking about the initiative, BCB Umpires' Committee Chairman Iftekhar 
Rahman said: "Match officials play a pivotal role in preserving the standards 
and spirit of cricket. This workshop is a continuation of our strategic focus 
on developing a strong, consistent, and well-trained group of referees who 
can operate confidently across formats and conditions."

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul and Vice President Nazmul Abedeen Fahim 
paid a visit while the workshop was in progress and spoke to the 
participants. 

The sessions are being led by experienced officiating professionals and BCB-
appointed facilitators, ensuring participants receive up-to-date knowledge on 
global best practices in cricket officiating and governance.
