DHAKA, June 18, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh veteran Mushfiqur Rahim scripted a
world record by going past a legend like Adam Gilchrist on Day 2 of the first
cricket Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Cricket Stadium today.
In this Test, he was dismissed after scoring an epic 163, which was his first
Test century following a lean patch that saw him went fifty-less for 13
innings.
During the course of his 163, Mushfiqur Rahim became the batter with most
runs in International cricket without bowling a single ball.
Australia's wicket-keeper batter Gilchrist made 15,461 runs in three formats
of cricket as only batter. In the Galle Test, Mushfiqur Rahim went past him
and he has now 15,513 runs under his belt.
Although most of the time in his career, Mushfiqur played as wicketkeeper-
batter, he has been now playing as a specialist batsman in the last few
years. But he has never been seen bowling in international cricket.
In first class cricket, he, however, bowled 15 overs and took one wicket.
South Africa's Quinton de Kock (12,654 runs) is third on the list, followed
by two English wicketkeeper-batsmen Jos Buttler (11,881 runs) and Jonny
Bairstow (11,581 runs).
