DHAKA, May 7, 2025 (BSS) - Mahidul Islam Ankon and captain Nurul Hasan Sohan struck scintillating centuries as Bangladesh A confirmed the three-match unofficial ODI series against New Zealand A, thrashing the visitors by 87 runs in the second match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.
The second string Bangladesh team, mostly formed with the national players to take on a young New Zealand side, won the first match by seven wickets.
Sohan blasted a six-laden 101 ball-112 with seven fours and as many sixes while Ankon made 105 off 108 with seven fours and five sixes.
They put on a record 225-run for the fourth wicket as Bangladesh A compiled a hefty 344-5.
Bangladesh lost opener Parvez Hossain Emon cheaply for just 8 but Naim Sheikh and Anamul Haque Bijoy steadied the innings with 73-run for the second wicket.
Naim made 40 and Bijoy contributed 39 to lay a good platform for the side.
New Zealand crumbled under the pressure of huge total and finally were bowled out for 257 in 43.1 overs with opener Dale Phillips hitting highest 54 ball-79 with 14 fours and two sixes. Kristian Clarke was not out on 39.
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat claimed 3-50 while Shoriful Islam, Tanvir Islam and Shamim Patwari took two wickets apiece.
The third and final one-day match between the two sides is on Saturday.
