Sylhet pitches are closest to what we expect in England: Hathurusingha

DHAKA, April 26, 2023 (BSS)- Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha
believes that a camp in Sylhet will be beneficial for his side to have a best
preparation for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland since all of the
matches between the two sides will be held in England.

He said from what he has seen that some of the pitches over Sylhet are
closest to what they might expect in England.

According to weather report, Ireland will experience a bad weather in May,
prompting them to arrange the series in Chelmsford so that no games are
canceled due to inclement weather.

The series is particularly important for the Irish. If they can whitewash
Bangladesh in the three-match series, which is the part of ICC ODI Super
League, they will qualify to the ODI World Cup in India later this year
directly at the expense of South Africa.

As they have already qualified, Bangladesh have no such calculation or
mathematical problem but they want to improve their game since they have a
lot of cricket coming up in different condition of the world.

"When we play in Sylhet, some of the pitches over there are closest to what
we might expect in England. It is also very hot here. There's a lot of
matches being played here. We can't get the wicket that I want here,"
Hathurusingha said here today.

The Bangladesh, however, will leave Dhaka for Sylhet on evening flight today
(Wednesday) and will start practice tomorrow. They will come back Dhaka on
April 29 immediate after completing their three-day practice session. They
will board the UK flight on May 1. The three ODIs are slated to be held on
May 9, 12 and 14.

"It is not just about English conditions. It is about overall development of
our game. We are not worried about opposition or results," Hathurasingha
said.

"We want to improve our game overall wherever we play in the future. We have
lots of Test cricket coming up next year. We play away from home as well.
(It's) just to improve our cricket."
