Youth Games: Inter-upazila Thakurgaon phase concludes

 

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2023 (BSS)- The Inter-upazila Thakurgaon phase of Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games, organized by Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), concluded today (Wednesday) at local Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon district.

Thakurgaon District Football Association's (DSA) president and Youth Games local committee's convener Prabir Kumar Gupta was the chief guest in the prize distribution ceremony, presided over by Thakurgaon DSA general secretary Asudur Rahman Babu.

Prominent businessman and sports enthusiast Noman Faruqi, general secretary of Baliadangi Upazila Sports Association Sadekul Islam, DSA's members Manowar Hossain Labin and Masud Rana, district's women sports association's general secretary Preeti Gangli were present as the special guests in the prize distribution ceremony.

Thakurgaon Reporters Unity's general secretary Md. Asaduzzaman Asad and office secretary Sohel Tanveer, online journalist forum Thakurgaon office's editor and journalist Ankhi Zaman, were among others, also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Thakurgaon phase of the games was formally inaugurated on January 3 last. Thakurgaon district's deputy commissioner Mahbubur Rahman formally inaugurated the games as the chief guest held at the Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium.

In Joypurhat district, the inter-upazila phase of the games concluded at Joypurhat stadium.

After the games, Joypurhat's deputy commissioner and DSA's president Salehin Tanveer Gazi distributed the prizes among the winners' as the chief guest.

District's additional superintendent of police (administration) KMA Mamun Khan Chishti presided over the closing ceremony, conducted by DSA's general secretary Mahbub Moreshadul Alam Lebu.

Zila parishad chairman principal Khaja Samsul Alam, district Awami League's president Arifur Rahman, sadar upazila parisad's chairman SM Solaiman Ali, municipal mayor's Mostafizur Rahman and chamber president Ahsan Kabir also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier on the day, the athletics competition was held with Siam of Sadar upazila emerging first in the 100m race.

Besides, Zihad Islam (Akkelpur) in 200m race, Bipul Hossain (Akkelpur) in 400m race, Istiaq Ahmed (Akkelpur) in 800m race and Abdur Rahman (Sadar) in 1500m race emerged top of their respective events. Sojit Chandra (sadar), Chhabbir Hossain (sadar) in high jump and Jadhisthir Borman (Panchbib) emerged first in boys' long jump event.

Akkelpur's Esha Khatun emerged first in the girls' 100m race event while Zeenat Rana (Akkelpur), in 400m, Rasheda Akhtar (sadar) in 800m, Esha Khatun (Akkelpur) 1500m and Marfia (sadar) emerged first in their respective events.
 
Besides, Sumna (sadar) and Musifia Akhtar Dina (Akkelpur) also emerged first in long jump and high jump in the girls' event while Musfia Akter (Akkelpur) emerged top in the girls' shot put event.
