Covid-19 cases rapidly climb to 37,995 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 20, 2021 (BSS)-The total number of Covid-19 positive cases rapidly climbed to 37,995 with diagnosis of 474 fresh cases on Monday in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said 11 more patients died during the last 24 hours in the division where the overall Covid-19 situation, causality rate and recovery rates are remaining mostly steady in recent days.

“The 474 new Covid-19 cases were reported after testing 1,961 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 24.17 percent on Monday,” said Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.   

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 26.75 percent on Sunday, 29.51 percent on Saturday, 28.11 percent on Friday, 19.57 percent on Thursday and 26.03 percent on Wednesday last in the division.  

“The district-wise break up of total 37,995 patients now stands at 8,346 Rangpur, 2,065 Panchagarh, 2,907 in Nilphamari, 2,002 in Lalmonirhat, 2,794 in Kurigram, 5,277 in Thakurgaon, 11,393 in Dinajpur and 3,211 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

A total of 1,94,730 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 37,995 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.51 percent in the division.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the number of casualties reached 766 as 11 more deaths were reported from Rangpur, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division on Tuesday,”

The district-wise break up of the 766 fatalities stands at 160 in Rangpur, 244 in Dinajpur, 145 in Thakurgaon, 54 in Nilphamari, 39 in Kurigram, 41 in Panchagarh, 37 in Gaibandha and 46 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.02 percent in the division,” Dr Islam said.           

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 28,122 with recovery of 825 more infected patients on Monday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 74.02 percent.         

The 28,122 recovered patients include 6,014 of Rangpur, 1,127 of Panchagarh, 2,251 of Nilphamari, 1,479 of Lalmonirhat, 1,900 of Kurigram, 3,667 of Thakurgaon, 9,651 of Dinajpur and 2,033 of Gaibandha districts in the division.  

Among the 37,995 infected patients, 624 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 26 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 28,122 patients and 766 deaths while 8,940 are remaining in home isolation.  

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 7,34,419, and among them, 3,89,508 got the second dose of the jab till Monday in the division,” Dr Islam added.   

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged all to strictly abide by the health directives to remain safe and keep others safe.
