Coast Guard seizes 650 sacks of cement, arrests 5 smugglers

DHAKA, Sept 11, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested five alleged smugglers and seized 650 sacks of cement while smuggling to Myanmar.

Bangladesh Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information today, saying acting on a tip-off a Coast Guard team from Ramgati Station conducted an operation on Thursday in the Meghna River near Char Abdullah under Ramgati Police Station in Lakshmipur district.

He said during the operation, the team searched two boats and arrested five alleged smugglers while they were smuggling 650 sacks of cement to Myanmar without custom.

Sujon said that 650 sacks of cement weighing around 32,500 kilograms worth of Tk 3.25 lakh, while the coast guard also seized the two boats, which were allegedly used in the smuggling activities.

Legal proceedings are underway against the arrestees and the seized goods, the Coast Guard said.
