DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) today launched a Tree plantation programme at industrial units to protect the country's environmental balance, biodiversity and strengthen the agriculture-based regional economy.
BSFIC Chairman Md ShamsuzzamanSuruj inaugurated the programmes by planting trees and sugarcane at Kanta Agricultural Farm in Setabganj.
Members of the BSFIC Board of Directors and senior officials were present.
For the 2026-27 fiscal year, a target has been set to plant one thousand trees at each industrial unit of the BSFIC, totaling 15 thousand trees.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, BSFIC Chairman said sugarcane cultivation plays a very important role in protecting the environment.
"The crop, which has a high carbon absorption capacity, helps maintain environmental balance by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere," he noted, citing multi-use of sugarcane.
He also stressed plating various other saplings across the country extensively.
