CHATTOGRAM, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - The Chattogram city, north and south district units of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today observed the party's 48th founding anniversary with various programmes, including prayers, wreath-laying and a grand rally.

As part of the observance, BNP leaders and activists paid homage to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman by placing wreaths at his first graveyard at Zianagar in Rangunia upazila of the district.

A doa mahfil and milad were also held at the grave, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of the BNP founder.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury attended the programme.

Chattogram city BNP Convener Ershad Ullah, MP, Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, MP, City BNP Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman, former General Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, BNP Central Committee Member Alhaj Shamsul Alam, South District BNP Convener Idris Mia and Chattogram Development Authority Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, among others, were present.

Speaking to reporters after paying homage at Ziaur Rahman's grave, Amir Khosru said the BNP founder envisioned building Bangladesh as a developed, prosperous and self-respecting nation.
Since its inception, the BNP has continued to advance by upholding the ideals and philosophy of Ziaur Rahman, he said.

Later, the Chattogram city BNP organised a grand rally at the old railway station premises in the city to mark the party's 48th founding anniversary.

Thousands of leaders and activists from the metropolitan, thana and ward units of the BNP, along with leaders and activists of its affiliated organisations, joined the rally.

The participants carried banners and festoons and brought musical instruments, while enthusiastic chants by the leaders and activists created a festive atmosphere around the rally venue.
