DHAKA, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Deputy Commissioner (DC) Farida Khanom today said children with intellectual disabilities can become valuable assets to the country if provided with proper care, education, training and suitable opportunities.
Farida Khanom said disability can never define the limits of a person's intelligence, talent and potential. Citing world-renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking as a shining example, she said he made remarkable contributions to unravelling the mysteries of the universe despite severe physical disabilities. His life teaches us that physical limitations cannot stop human intelligence and dreams, she added.
She made the remarks as the chief guest at a programme organised at the Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh Police in Rajarbagh, Dhaka, today to mark the 10th anniversary of 'Mayar Badhon', an organisation working for the development of differently abled children.
The programme was chaired by Mayar Badhon President Mst Fowzia Yasmin. Representatives of civil society, parents, members of the organisation and differently abled children attended the event.
